The Great Pond Gun Club, 1910.

Scrapbook of newspaper clippings pasted onto blank pages containing a series of articles from "The Press" (Portland Press Herald) for Oct. 28, Nov. 11, and Nov. 30-Dec. 3, 1910. The Great Pond Gun Club was founded in the early 1900s and located in Cape Elizabeth, Me. After its founding, it began to consider Great Pond, the largest public wetland in Cape Elizabeth as its own private property to be used for fishing and hunting and did not allow pond access by the public. After years of argument and protest by the public the Maine courts ordered that it be kept open for public use. Fred H. Thompson was one of the original founders and the club's first president.
